abstract = {We prove numerically and experimentally that optical pattern formation can arise by using counterpropagating vortices. Such a beam carrying an orbital angular momentum is injected into a photorefractive single feedback system. We show that the nonlinear wave-mixing occurring inside the medium gives rise to different complex patterns with peculiar phase singularities and rotating dynamics. We demonstrate that the dynamics is induced by the vortex angular momentum and the rotation velocity depends on the vortex topological charge.}
