125th Birthday of the International Society SEE
Under the High Patronage of the President of the French Republic, Nicolas SARKOZY

Invitation to participate

In the frame of the 125th birthday of the international society SEE (Society of Engineers in Electricity, Electronics, and Information and Communication Technologies), under the High Patronage of the President of the French Republic, Mr Nicolas SARKOZY, and with the support of the General Director of Supélec and President of SEE, Mr Alain BRAVO, Supélec, "grande école" of electrical engineering in France, organizes the international conference "A Future in Light - Vision d'Avenir" in its Metz Campus.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum for discussion on a modern and important technology, i.e. photonics, and to present to the scientific community and a large public audience not only the historical context, recent applications and impact on our daily lifes, but also the perspectives for future applied and fundamental research in this field. The choice of photonics as an innovation framework for this international conference is related not only to the great interest that it receives in our national and european research policy and in the industrial research and development strategy, but also to our research activities in Supélec and in particular in Metz in the frame of the CNRS laboratories LMOPS UMR-7132 (Lab. Optical Materials, Photonics and Systems), which is a common research unit with University of Metz, and UMI-2958, which is a common research unit with Georgia Institute of Technology (USA).

The conference therefore aims at bringing together the photonics community. The two-day program is made of invited talks by keynote plenary speakers and a combined poster session and exhibition in the frame of what we have called “Photonics Village”. Companies, research laboratories, education networks and individual researchers will present their latest research and product achievements and their efforts undertaken in education in photonics. The Photonics Village is therefore a unique platform for networking among the photonics community.

The conference receives the support of SEE, Rhenaphotonics Alsace, the French Optical Society (SFO), CA2M (Communauté d’Agglomération de Metz Métropole), and Conseil Régional de Lorraine.
